Have literally got money burning a hole in my pocket. Want to buy a varmint rig and have got some $$$ set aside for it. Wifey knows I'm buying something but no idea as to how much I'm spending. Have got an Elite 4200 Tactical 6-24x50 on the way from WSS and want something to strap it onto.

So, am pondering rifle and chambering. Gave serious thought to a Cooper Phoenix in .22-250 but just can't bring myself to drop my whole load on one single-purpose rifle. More thinking along the lines of a .22-250 or a .204 Ruger (hell, maybe even a .223) in a 1k rifle and keeping some $$$ for another toy or leave it in the slush fund for now. Synthetic/laminated is a preference, as is stainless. Am thinking maybe the CZ550 laminated in .22-250, the CZ527 laminated or kevlar also intrigues me but only listed in WSS in .223 (obviously a proven shooter but it bores me a bit, the calibre not the rifle). A few more $$$ leads me to the Kimber 84M Longmaster VT in .22-250 (looks cool but really worth the extra dough? same principle applies as to the Cooper, can I really afford to have that much $$$ invested into one rifle). As it stands, I can drop a grand into a rifle and still have play money to pick up a decent chicken gun or maybe a lighter calibre dedicated deer rifle (.25-06, 257R, 260 Rem vs. my current all-purpose .270 Wby or go the other way and buy a dedicated moose/elk/bear rifle in something like .338 Federal).

Russells has a BVSS in stock in .223, again only in .223 available currently but hey, the price is right at $770.

Also, am seriously considering a Tikka T3 HB Varmint. Price is still around 1k, plus it gives me the option of moving into a .243 vs. the single-purpose varmint rounds. The .243 I can use for anything from prairie dogs to coyotes plus can use to harvest any deer that is stupid enough to come in to see what all the predator calling fuss is all about. So, I can then cover the varmint and/or deer chambering and still have room left for a .338 calibre for bigger game... hmmm... maybe even a 35 whelen....

Lastly, I have the option of picking up an SPS Varmint on the cheap and using the spare coin to rebarrel it with a match grade bbl, Shilen, Lilja, Hart, etc... This leaves me the $$$ for another toy plus the option of upgrading the stock down the road as well as money permits.

Awww crap.... you see just how many decisions there are to make. I've been tossing up these ideas in my head for the last 2 weeks and am no further ahead in making a decision. What I need is a sweet deal to pop up in the EE that will make my mind up for me.:confused::confused:

Money in your pocket, eh? I too know it's painful burn... :D

Tikka's are nice rigs. I have my eye on the savage "Precision Carbine". I'm thinking about selling/trading in my current 10FP LE1A 20" for this medium contoured sporter stocked version. The 20" heavy barreled choate stock wearing rig I have now is a bit heavy for my liking. Shoots like a dream though!

If you can find one, a Remington XR-100 in 22-250, 204 or 223 is a great rifle and infinitely upgradeable.

Otherewise, the Tikka is probably the most accurate factory rifle you'll find for the money. If you want to buy two rifles, and have good performance from both, consider SPS Varmints (Use Leupold QRS rings and you can swap scopes easily).

I love mine, and I keep the completely factory for hunting gophers.

You will never regret a quality barrel on a trued 700. $800 on top of the cheapest SPS you can buy will do it.

I too have my eye on the new Savage but I can't seem to get a confirmed shipping time from any dealers. I'm just not willing to wait till Dec to get one cuase in all likelihood, that when Canada will get theirs if the US allows export at all.
