Spending as much money on stock and forend as the shotgun cost new might not be the best money spent. I like the shotgun, and even the plastic stock/forend are not the end of the world, but some laminated wood pieces would seem pretty nice and good looking. Has anybody done similar upgrade? Anything I would need to be careful with?

Buying another nicer shotgun is also an option, but cost fair bit more.

The new 88s have the plastic forend stacked to the action bars. To replace it you need to replace the action bars to one of the older mossbergs with the action bars connected to a a metal tube. Adds to the cost

So not a "plug and play". I'll save my money and buy another shotgun rather than tinker with this one.

My Maverick is not complaining at all, shoots really well.

Theyre great guns for the money. Ive just always preferred the older mossberg series that have the metal tube forend so swapping forends is easy. Just undo the collar nut and slide on and off and retighten. Ive seen more newer mossberg 500 synthetics break than mav 88s because of the staked action bars
