I own one for a Remington 783 and am very dissapointed with it. Barrel channel needed A LOT of sanding to allow the barrel to free float. Magazines couldn't fit in the mag well at all and again needed a lot of sanding to fit. The grips aren't flush with the rest of the stock and there's large gaps when the puttpad and cheek riser are supposed to be flush with the rest of the stock. It's also a very blocky stock which makes it uncomfortable to hold. I know they were trying to keep costs down when they made this but I would have been much happier if they had just taken the pro varmint stock and incorporated the adjustable LOP and cheek riser.
Id consider getting a Bell and Carlson stock for the 10/22. I am not sure how it compares to the very high end stuff like MacMillan or Manners, but the one I have on my cz 527 is very nice. It has an aluminum bedding block and the stock itself is very rigid and easy to mount. Its probably only around 100ish canadian dollars more then a customized boyds stock.
I asked atleast 1 sponsor about the Archangel precision stock for the 10/22. Was told its in the works 3 years ago. Can't find one in Canada anywhere which sucks cause it looks like it could be a great stock.
my dad picked up one of those new Boyd stocks and he hates it.
very block and uncomfortable edges on it right where ya hold it.
i finaly got to get my hands on it and id have to agree.
shame it looks so nice.
i have a Boyd tacticool (or whatever they call it now) and i love it.
i think they call it a Pro Varmint now.
i also run one of their SS Evolution and its super nice.
now that i think of it i also have one of the thumbhole ones, again, super nice!
I have been trying to convince myself to order a couple Boyd's atone stocks for one of .22s or a 223 and the reviews are pretty much bang on to what the gunnutz are reporting. I dont mind the hogue for double duty purposes.. fits well and works for target or hunting but the magpuls are tight and sturdy. Have one on a 10/22 and it's been great.
The titan stocks, like wayupnorth has posted about in depth in the past seem to be one of the best options but are a bit pricey.
The atone stocks were a great concept. Hopefully they bump up the quality a bit. It is a new style for Boyd's and they sell a TON of stocks so I'm hoping they get the fitting down in the future.
