I want to put a stock on my 1942 m96. I have a williams peep sight on it and wanted the classic design stock. All they offer now is the prairie hunter. Any thoughts on open sights with the raised comb on this stock?

I have the Prairie Hunter stock on a M77 7mm-08 that has peeps and an elevated post front... the height works perfectly for me, but the setup is higher than a standard ramp and blade... not much lower than a 1-4X20 in low mounts... I think that you will be fine... did you have to raise the front with the Williams peep? They are nice stocks... comfortable to carry and shoulder.

It has a receiver mount aperature and a Remington style front post with a hood. It does all sit fairly high. I have a ram line on it now that I am not happy with. It seems like I really have to hunker down into the stock and am worried the Boyd's might be worse.

How much of difference is there between a #1 bbl and a military stepped barrel? Would it be feasable to buy the stock for the # 1 bbl and grind out the barrel channel to fit. I guess if I was going to do that, I could also order the prairie hunter and sand down the comb. It took way to long to get the ramline to fit, so I'm kind of used to stocks that don't fit right away.

Sorry, I can't help you on the barrel contour question... but personally I would far rather work on the barrel channel than the comb... a dowel and sand paper an half hour of your time will fix the channel, three coats of lacquer later, it is better than new... the comb would require refinishing the whole stock.

Thanks Hoyt, I'm going to do some googling to see just how much difference there is. I think you're right on the barrel channel though. I was hoping someone would chime in with experience on the matter. I put in a product request for a classic style and I know they made them in the past. Should have grabbed one when I had the chance.
