Boyds "slim" Garand stocks on sale

Thanks for the heads up.

I just ordered one too.

I was just thinking how I would like to restore this old M1 that I have. The metal needs a lot of work too. Once the stock is done I may take it all apart and get it coated.

Another project, yey.

Ironically, the day before the Boyd's sale, I posted this message about my positive experience with their "fat" style stock:

I happened upon the advertisement for the "slim" version and managed to get one ordered... I figure the time I'll save not having to remove as much material from the "fat" stock is worth the cost of having both. It'll also be interesting to compare the difference between the "slim" and "fat" dimensions -- I"ll try to post some pics when the second stock arrives.

For info. I recently had a nice US GI Garand stock siezed by some eager- beaver "homeland security" doofus in Chicago. The stock was en route to me from an ebay vendor. It's valuation on the export sticker was $102.

No reason was given, however the US bureaucrats refused to discuss the issue with the seller who has been very helpful. They told the seller to consult an attorney or an import/export broker. In any event they wanted $100, plus postage, to release it back to the seller. We mutually agreed that it was'nt worth the hassle to either of us and he will abandon the stock and thus make the world a safer and better place.:bangHead: The seller agreed to refund me half or the purchase price.

I have probably gotten a dozen or so stocks from ebay over the past few yrs with no difficulties. There are no Cdn restrictions on importing these stocks, nor are they on the list of restricted parts which has been promulgated on the US side. Folks should be aware that there is a chance of getting side -swiped by the fickle finger of bureaucracy when importing even an unrestricted part.:(
