i picked up a husky 98 from trade ex but the stock is too short and rather ugly so its got to go. has anyone ordered the boyds for one of these i would like to know if the they are inletted for the bolt handle as their standard mauser stock has no such cut. also do any of thier models offer a traditional profiled foreend that doesn;t have the savage axis style finger grooves on it? i hate that look.

Short stocks are fixed with recoil pads. Ugly is fixed with a paper bag, a flag or a 40 pounder. snicker. It a wood stock? Sandpaper and tung oil can do wonders for wood.
Boyds lists stocks for military barrels and large ring #1 barrels. Best you contact 'em and ask.

I just bought a Boyds stock for a Swedish Mauser 96. I would have to say there is a moderate amount of woodworking to do to get the stock to fit properly. Yes, I had to cut the entire bolt handle groove with a Dremel tool. It wasn't rocket science but it sure isn't a "drop in stock" if that is what you are looking for in a replacement stock. I also added a Timney trigger and there was some whittling to do on the stock to get that to fit properly.

I bought the standard Classic design in Walnut from Boyds. It is great now that they have increased the import/export limit to $500 as it opens up available options. Unfortunately Boyds does not offer their checkering patterns for the Mauser stocks. Everyone I have shown the assembled rifle to has admired the stock so it can't be too bad.
Regards,
Dave.

I just finished with my Husky/Boyds.....it's an FN98 8mm and I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. It took some work (bedding and bolt cut) but I'm glad I did it. PM me if you're interested in some pics.
