3 month's ago I ordered 3 boyds stocks . a 10/22 stock a savage axis featherlite thumbhole and a pro varmint for a savage 11. The boyds stocks for the 10/22 and axis fit great , no issues . The pro varmint has some fitment issues . The bolt will not insert ammo into chamber . Needs to come up prob 1-3 mm . I need to do a bit of in-letting . I don't do any wood working and need some help . Hoping to use a dremel and sand paper . any one have any fitment issues with thier savage shrt action and any tips that could help me ? afraid of saving off too much material .

Before you start grinding your stock, refit the action three or four times and try different amounts of torque on the stock bolts... Make sure it is not an install error and at the very least to get a better feeling for the fitting required... it is rare that a Boyd's stock needs fitting for a standard action... I would use flat and bastard files and then sand to final finish... you can reseal with Tru-Oil and it will match the finish very closely... I just cut down the forends on two stocks for compact barrelled actions... and sanded out the barrel channel on two others... the Rutland plywood is easy to work with.

Sounds like Hoytcannon has his thumb on the pulse. I am no expert but any of the stocks I have fitting I used a dremel and some really bright red lipstick:)

That is right "lipstick." I get the cheapest one from the dollar store or steal the Wife's. You put it on the underside of your gun and when you put it back into the stock it will show you the high pressure points that need fitting/sanding.

My best advice is too work slow and dont take too much material off at once. You cant put it back on.

Good luck.
