I'm not that big a fan of the look of laminated stocks...and have promised myself I wouldn't do a $250+ upgrade on a $125 gun...BUT...I'm wondering if anyone has? Care to post any photos? I know Marlin put out a model 60 recently with a walnut stock, but I think a "Rimfire Hunter" in walnut would look pretty snazzy on a 795. Of course..I'd probably have to get DIP involved to make sure the whole budget gets blown. :)

Hey, people spend 2 or 3 times the cost of the gun to fix up their 10/22's all the time...and those are usually a POS to begin with! At least the Marlin is probably a good shooter right out of the box! cou: :)

If you do this, post some pics. I have an older Marlin 880SQ which I've thought about upgrading this way many times. Don't forget the trigger guard and bits.

lol...well...agreed. :) However, I'd no longer be able to razz 10/22 owners with a straight face. I don't find the stock geometry bad on 795s to be honest, and don't even really mind the plastic stocks. The reason I'm toying with the idea is that they shoot so well, I almost feel like they deserve to look better. I think the stainless one I have would be a good candidate.

.22LRGuy….I hear you clearly. My 981T shoots so good but has a crappy stock. I've almost hit the buy button for a Boyd's stock several times…just can't decided between the Hunter or Varmint model.

Razzing 10/22 owners never goes out of style.

I really need to take a better picture. But after raining death on the gophers like a champ all season, I decided my 795 had earned itself a Boyds. I went with the Laminate at the same time I got a new stock for my M305 when they were having one of their flash sales earlier this summer.

I didn't mind the stock that came with it - it was comfortable, light, and did the job. But with the Boyd's thumbhole? Oh, man. It's a little bit heavier, but you don't notice, because it's so much better balanced. I could shoulder this thing all day and not get tired.

Horrible picture I took with my phone, need to get a good picture (especially since I added a bipod) for the hall of fame.

That pick also reminds me I need to pull that cheap RedHeaed sling and grab some nice leather... Now look what you went and did? Costing me money...

I like the cut of your jib grelmar. :) See this whole set-up (and the Waltz re-sizing die you can't see)....

.....all dedicated to one purpose. To be a gopher-slayer extraordinaire! Thought if I'm taking one 22 rifle west with me this coming spring...it ought to be a bolt gun. Meanwhile, 2 Marlin 795s are sitting in the safe beside a Marlin 917 heavy barrel. Looks like the two bolt guns will get the nod. Still....I'm a 795 fan through and through.

I did the same thing, upgraded to a Boyd's thumb hole stock....very nice but it is heavier than the original, which I had filled with non expanding foam to stiffen it up and eliminate that hollow sound when you tapped it.Cheap fix...

You have good taste... My avatar is my 452 Lux, and that thing is a laser with CCI 1640 FPS Segmented Hollow Points (aka: anti gopher projectile grenades). If you're going to bring two rifles out (and why not?) bringing your CZ and a 795 is a solid choice. In the spring, especially, when you're doing the really high volume shooting, the extra in accuracy edge the CZ gives you won't mean as much as being able to lay down a volume of fire. My top day this spring was about 120 of them in a little over an hour, shooting from one spot. If you hit a field that's really overrun, you can beat that total - but not with a bolt gun.
