I'm lookin to replace my cheap Norinco stock with something with a little more beauty. I have a couple questions about the boyd stocks though.

1) Do you have to fill out any permits or any other mind boggeling gov't paperwork to get it across the border?

2) Can you special order a black metal or fiberglass handguard instead of the wood one they send with it? I prefer the black metal look myself.

3) Good quality product or is there a better place a little closer to home?

The total order must be under $100 or there is some sort of export permit paperwork required. That's what they just told me as I have ordered a laminate stock for a bolt action rifle.
 
Boyd's ships it's stocks with no handguard, you can buy a wood one from them, or use a GI fibreglass, or other handguard with the stock.
 
Yes Boyds stocks are very nice, but unless things have changed,you will need to reuse your old meatl from your old stock . You can paint a USGI fiberglass handgaurd any color you like ,Black . They can be had (used) around here for under $5 U.S.
 
Boyds stocka are great, I just put one on my Mini Mauser II, turned out very nice.
Pity that you usually have to wait so long to get them, I am sure that there are exceptions, but in my experience, sure is a long wait.
But all in all worth it.

I have ordered a Boyd's stock for my Savage 110 E in February (yes a couple of months ago) I was told it would be produced in August. Now quess what I have just learned from them today ?

We have packed and are holding your part. The US government is currently not allowing us to ship to Canada for individuals. We are trying to work with them to find out what we need to do. However, at this time we are unable to ship. If, you get tired of waiting we can cancel your order.

What is this ? I have read on CGN that some other people (Yes Canadians) had received their boyd's M1A gun stock not so long ago. Was it because the total cost was under 100 $ ? Seems the US government is making a big case for such a small piece of wood. I dont see why I would have to deal with a Canadian importer distributor since it is not a gun !

Any canadian distributor or dealer that could help with this ?

I emailed boyds a while back and was told that Bashaw sports and Corlane sports are both boyd dealers. I shoot with the staff of Bashaw sports and their great guys.

Give Pud a call or email them and he'll set you up.

The limit to import without a permit is $500, it was $100 almost a year ago but Bush signed the necessary paperwork to increase the export limit. Wood stocks are not on the banned list, parts like receivers, bolts, barrels, bullets, ammunition are, and need a permit to export.

Allot of US businesses are not in tune with the revised limits. If they say it's $100, it's like taking to a wall to rationalize with them.

I have never had an issue with Boyd's.

No lie, Been waiting since January for a stock for a 1903 Springfield (costs $99). Find it in Canada or sit, wait &:jerkit:..in the meantime..
 
I know it's a real F***g joke !:mad:

I have been waiting for months and it's now sitting on a shelve waiting for some Dumbass to have this big "national security" case resolved... "Remember it is not only a piece of wood it's a gun stock" :runaway::runaway:

I will wait for a little while and eventually ask Boyd's wich Canadian dealer could simply receive my order. It stink's since I will probably have to pay more for it. The dealer has to make a profit doesn't he !!

Why did I had to choose such an expensive hobby, Bowling would have been much better...:cool:
 
Well I have been waiting since march for 2 stocks for my stevens . Back in july I saw my visa was charged for one stock ,so I was like great its on its way and should be here in about 3 weeks like usuall. 5 weeks go by and I call them to ask whats up ? and I get this ..........."well 14 stocks were seized at the border in Chicago and yours was one of them:eek:" So now I must wait for them to get it straitned out and they will not ship anything to canada untill this is fixed . So one stock is stuck at customs and one is on the shelf. Be lucky to see either of them by the spring :(:jerkit:
 
Update:

Talked with Boyd's today to see if they were still having trouble with the whole border thing. The nice lady on the phone tells me they cleared that up last week (c. end of September or so).

"Fantastic" says I. "Whatcha got for M14/M1A stocks?"

She checks her computer.

"Darn little", she says. "We're no longer making those."

Long pause.

I ask her to clarify.

She confirms. Every once in a while, they go through the catalogue and purge anything that isn't selling like it should. Apparently, these weren't.

I waqnted the nutmeg laminate. They don't have 'em any more. Bets she could offer was walnut, either finished or unfinished, no handguards available. I took one of the very last finished walnuts they had. She maintains there will not be more, ever.

If you always meant to get one of these, best to get on that pony now. Looks like this is the end of the train.

try looking up stockysstocks....... not going to post the link... but all is not lost boys and girls.... boyds was only one of many producers of fine wood stocks for m1a types. they are in the u.s. but thier m1a repro stock is under 100.00 :D and my buddies down south say they are real nice stocks.

Brand New Completely Finished Oiled Walnut M1A Style 1 Reproduction Stock w/ Bedding cuts (sorry, no handguards)

It is with substantial regret that I quote Stocky's Stocks website:

International Shipments:
In a nutshell, we cannot do it. U.S. federal law prohibits it for any order over $100. The law states that, in order to export gun parts, you need a permit and we need a permit. A U.S. Export Permit costs $1700 per individual receiving the shipment, annually. It takes about 6 months to get one. If you are willing to pay for our permit, plus our time and effort to apply and follow-up, we can discuss it, especially if you are considering doing it on a regular basis as the permit can encompass hundreds of stocks and it does not require it be shipped in one shipment. In other words, we could have your annual supply of stocks approved and you can receive them in several shipments throughout the course of the year.

Frankly, it is not cost effective for us to do it on orders under $100 either, as it take about an hour to complete the paperwork. Then you'll want us to be responsible for any delays or the item's inability to clear customs, and we'll have no recourse when you want a refund for the item's failure to do so. We've seen it happen to other retailers. Sorry, no non-U.S. shipments unless it is a very large order and you are willing to pay for all costs as outlined above.

Any other ideas? I'd like a walnut handguard to match my new stock...

that's really wierd... i spoke with them not 3 weeks ago... thier stock was under 100.00 and they had no issues shipping it to me.....
