If anyone is looking for some Collectors source has some and a bunch of accessories. But prepare your wallet for it.

I was paying up to $25 a round when I could find it 15 years back. I was lucky to find 3 or 4 rounds a year. I have seen people asking $50 a round these days, although any friends I know who have them still in .55 cal are not paying that. Then again they are not regularly shooting them either.

40 bucks a round is surprisingly reasonable assuming the cartridges were stored correctly and are in good fireable condition.

Supply and demand. You would be hard pressed to reload that cartridge for under 40 a shot, forgetting about the tremendous cost of dies and presses.

I think a mint original bandoleer like that is more of a collectors item than 'shooter' ammo.

I would feel guilty shooting that bandoleer. I know many others would not.

I'm sure this stuff will continue to dry up.

-Steve

In my day I "dried up" about 60-80 rounds of the stuff. I have a friend who dried up another 10. I converted to BMG to make the ammunition affordable and easy to find. My friend has kept his on 55, and he finds very little new ammunition. He will not pay $40 a round.
