Surely there's people here who've done it.

What's your experience and recommended loads? Grease cookie? Rough measurement, appears that 30 gr weighed of 2F will fill to the bottom of the shoulder(ish). So it seems that there will be some compression required to seat a bullet.

Don't need anything too powerful, just to ping a good sized gong at 50 with a 94.

Thanks.

Thanks for the input. I should have explained that match rules dictate only Holy Black or Pyrodex as propellant.

Last time, I fired some borrowed cartridges and had issues (timed event). Don't know what the loads were and hoping for some input from other's experience.

I don't know the preferred formula for 30-30, but a duplex load will burn a lot cleaner in most calibres; if your match rules allow it. The idea is that a couple grains of a smokeless power, near the primer, make the main BP burn hotter and cleaner. Google duplex load.

The 30-30 was never made for BP commercially but the .32 Special was for either BP or smokeless hence the 1-16 twist compared to the 1-12 ...............................less fouling.

I just did ...gotta try it so I’m gonna try it. My experiments with BP in my 338-06 were disappointing. Thith ith tho exthiting!

Went all out and tried this ... and with a paper patch no less. Needs a bit of tuning but I was still impressed. Here are the specifics:

338-06 with 5 gr 4759 and up to the shoulder with 1 f. Bullet is 225 gr cast from NOE mould. Patch used was parchment paper ... and lightly crimped (mistake, I think).
