Hey guys,

I've got a nice Browning BPS Field 12 ga. with a fixed FULL choke designation. I've measured the muzzle with digital calipers and the ID appears to be .700" (give or take .001"). According the Browning spec's below the choke is actually opened to more like between IM & MOD.

Browning 12 GA bore/choke spec's:
12 ga. Fixed
Full .685
Improved Modified .695
Modified .705
Improved Cylinder.716
Skeet .719
Cylinder .725
Bore .729

Could this be from:
A) Previous owner having the choke opened up without mofying the barrel marks? The barrel, however, is mirror finish from chamber to muzzle - maybe the job was done very well . . ?
B) The choke opening up from use/wear? - I doubt it since the gun is in VG to Excellent condition.

I've been considering my options to shoot steel for the obvious reasons, and I also will have oportunities to hunt Columbian Blacktail deer on 150 private acres on Galiano Island for the forseeable future seasons. I want to feel confident using rifled slugs and I know that FULL choke is not a good choice for slugs or steel shot. Am I maybe OK as is if I limit steel shot to size 3 or 4?

Thanks for your thoughts!
