Which is a better all around shotgun, the Browning BPS or the 870 Express.Looking for a wet weather duck, trap and rabbit gun.

I prefer the 870.
the BPS is a nice gun, but i did not like how small the action lock is and where it was located

other than that, i liked them both.
i bought the 870 marine magnum.
check them both out and buy what you like best.

I've owned both... If I had the choice of the two again, I'd go 870...

Cheers
Jay
P.S. The wife owns a 870 in 20 ga...

I prefer the 870, but the BPS is a well made gun too. The reason I prefer the 870 is because I find the reach to the fore stock is too long for me, so I end up holding it near the close end to the reciever, then when I pump the gun, the empty ends up in my hand and jams the gun up. However, my buddy who is considerably taller than me (and longer arms too) loves his BPS and does not have this problem.

Some good info so far on the thread. There both good guns, just depends on what the shooter needs it for.

If your a LEFT handed hunter, go for the BPS with the bottom eject. My back bored BPS has less recoil than my 870. The trigger is much lighter and it has a tang safety! The quailitys a little nicer, but it's also more money.

If your right handed and like to go for a variety of shooting sport, then go for the 870. There's allot more after market acces. & barrels for the 870

I also have both but my BPS is a ten gauge stalker for ducks and geese. At almost 11 pounds it's a blind or boat gun as it gets heavy real fast.
It does suck up recoil nicely and the safety is easy to find with gloves. The downward ejection keeps spent hulls from floating around a boat blind and maybe spooking birds and a mess that shouldn't be there anyway.

I also like my 870's and used one for upland birds for many years. I like the old Wingmasters best and think they have a better action feel but maybe that's just because most are worn in well. I have a newer Marine Magnum with the newer butt pad that tames even 12 ga. buckshot somewhat. Probally one of the best all weather shotguns made.

Both are top pump guns and mostly personal preference on which one in my opinion.
