I'm retiring in January so I thought it was time to get myself a gift. Everything pictured here was bought new from a fellow CGN member. The receiver is a Stiller 2500X, Jewel trigger set to 2 oz., Benchmark barrel to finish at 24" with a 1 in 16.5" twist, Shehane benchrest stock. Calfee reamer for Lapua ammo, .041" headspace and I can have either a 6 or 12 oclock firing pin (already set for 6 oclock). I'll be adding a Harrel tuner and top it with a Leupold Competition 45X scope. Everything is being shipped next week to Black Art Rifles in Naramata for assembly. I was thinking of a wild paint job for the stock but the more I look at it I think a hand rubbed oil finish will look good. Can't wait to get it back and start ammo testing. I'll add new pics when the assembly is done.

Wow... nice project... make the wood pretty with a high gloss to blind fellow competitors...

I hope your shooting is better than your photography ;)

Yes, I shoot better than I take pictures
RockChucker, The action is new and I paid $1300 Can which is less than US price at Killoughs, I got a deal ;)

Whoa!! Looks like real challenger coming up.

Great pieces you have there, my friend. Assembled correctly and with a good pilot [LOL ;)] it should shoot "light's out"

My Jim Williams prepped Suhl may be outclassed at BR 50. :)

Regards, Dave.

there was a big todo a few years ago when they discussed the merits of the 1.5 degree lead versus 1 degree and shorter,

we bought a reamer 10 years ago for a couple of halls and had steve kostanich from washington state (nbsa record holder and gunsmith) build or chamber them, cannot remember what he said or how we did the front ends, but it took quite a few phone calls ot some of the better shooters at the time in the USA, all which were quite helpful,

prior life I know just too much info for my little head

I had built about 5 full blown rimfire benchguns, and 30 centerfire br guns just too much to remember

Calfee reamers are 2 degrees per side leade angle, I just don't know the benefits of the 2 diameters. Of course it's .0005" so does anybody really know or have seen evidence of performance difference?

Peter

Just curious as I've been looking at Anschutz 22s, how would this custom compare in accuracy against the high end Anschutz rifles?

It may be much better or as good or worse depending on how its set up. The whole idea is to be better than Anschutz. You don't see factory Anschutz rifles winning too many BR competitions anymore. All are customs using these same components. If Annies are winning, they are usually doing so with different barrels chambered with these or similar reamers and BR stocks.

I agree yet disagree in some respects,

1. agreed most annies are not winning USA competiitons, but here is why---the USA guys like USA actions and barrels, nuff said, also lilja makes barrels for the blieker guns and they rock (they pre-wear them out so they shoot without having to run 2500 rounds through them to decide whether the barrel will perform at the highest level or not)

and the USA guys think the USA is the only place to get components that is why most usa guns are not the anschutz variety

lilja also makes cone breech barrels now so that you can rotate your barrel 360 degrees to find the sweet spot and that does work,

the annie trigger shoe is not the best that I have found but the triggers themselves are great (love the 2 stage but jewel and better yet the bix n andy triggers are good as well)

I have a couple of annies for sale a 1. barrelled action complete with trigger 2007/2013 unfired $2550 shipped and 2. 2007/2013 in JTR stock unfired bedded by Ian himself $3500 and 3. 2007/2013 in a master class robertson (left hand) for $2750 shipped

the main thing with the annies is to find a good mating between the stock and action, most get it right some get it wrong, and the beauty of annies is the lilja barrel replacement is only about 550 per barrel and you can do it yourself,

find a good tuner setup and the annies will shoot right along side a custom (BUT NOT AS GLAMOROUS) and I own a $6000 swindlehurst done by kelblys a twin to murdicas swindlehurst with a nice stock, and some halls as well,

there is not much difference as most chosen reamers are done for the eley black box flat nose round, and most will work it is just a matter of finding the right ammo for the gun,

I have about 8 cases of the master X that lapua made while setting up the exacta machines but never seem to find time to test it, even in winter

later
