Hey guys just took my brand new p226 to the range for the first time. Out of 120 rounds I probably encountered 10 or more FTF light primer strikes. These all occured in single action, after the FTF I pulled the trigger double action and the round would fire.

Has anyone encountered this?, is it a matter of cleaning out the firing pin? Or is it a spring issue? If its an easy fix I'll do it myself.

What ammunition were you using? It wouldn't hurt to have a look at the firing pin opening to ensure there's nothing obvious.

I'd be tempted to take it back. Its a Sig. At least call them.

Its a brand new higher end piece. If it was a TV or anything else, you'd take it back or call customer service.

Sorry it took me a while to get back. It was cheap sellier and bellot stuff. Never had a problem with it in my girsan or px4. I was wondering if it could be a light trigger spring? As I mentioned the DA trigger would always set off the primer immediately after a SA FTF.

Possibly defective hammer spring or firing pin. Take it back to have it looked at.

This is what I was thinking. It's the stainless elite so it's got the SRT. The hammer feels like it drops softer than my other DA/SA . Had a couple stove pipes which could have been from me riding that slide catch. Those didnt happen after I corrected my grip to stay away from it. I was running the gun a little on the dry side. Thanks for the help everyone

I don't know about the Sellier & Bellot ammunition but I use their primers and they are indeed pretty hard to ignite. Even so, a stock P226 shouldn't have any ussue. The easiest fix is to replace the mainspring.

Not really.

Before you start screwing around with springs and stuff try different ammo. Do the easiest thing first.

If you still have problems then have someone look at it.

That being said I have ran tens of thousands of rounds through sigs with no problems like that.

I'll try some different ammo to see if I can eliminate that possibility. I was expecting the same reliability you're talking about. I figured it should fire the cheaper stuff too.

If it is a matter of a stronger spring is that something that any sig dealer would do? Or would it have to be shipped out of province to where it came from?
