Just ordered a brand new Mossberg 590A1 Blackwater edition from one of the sight vendors.

As I was pulling it out of the box, the front sight (the white dot) fell out of it's slot and onto the floor. Upon further looking at it, it looks like it's a separate part all on it's own separate from the slot in the holder on the barrel of the shogun.

I don't see any signs of anything broken like a missing retaining clip or anything and the sight just slides right into the slot, however, it is lose and if I jiggle the shotgun around, it will eventually fall out of the slot on the floor again.

Anyone here know if I'm missing a retaining clip of some kind or do I have to do something????

Thanks

LOL,

Looks like I found the culprit. There's an allen screw that needs to be tightened with an allen key to retain the front sight in the slot.

Now it's all good.

Not sure what will happen when I've been out with it for a while? Probably lose the sight eventually as the allen screw works itself loose.

Loctite the sucker..

Strongly considering this. The only issue is, the allen screw is simply just pinching the front sight down into the slot. My concern is, eventually the bottom of the screw doing the pinching will wear down and the sight will loosen again. If I locktite this little screw, I don't think I'l ever be able to take it out or loosen it. I'd probably have to drill the sucker out!

Well, I took the Mossberg to the range to shoot it. Everything works fine.

However,

that sight issue I had mentioned at the beginning, I thought I tightened it enough. Well, somewhere on my 25 shot, I realized the front iron sight was no longer there. Seems it worked itself loose and flew off during one of my blasts.

I tried in vain too search for the part on the ground, problem is, the ground is covered in this dirty grey gravel and some of it is light and some is dark, so looking for that front sight was like searching for a needle in a haystack. I gave up after a while because other's wanted to use the single range I was on.

Now I need to find this damn thing.

Anyone have any ideas where I can source a replacement????

Go back with a strong magnet on a cord.
