Hey all,

I may just be having an OCD moment but something about just doesn't sit right with me. The problem is when I got home and poured-over my new(and first) shotgun the barrel doesn't quite line up with the reciever.... As you can see there's a gap and it appears to be off to the right slightly

The thing is that inside the action the barrel assembly lines up perfectly...

should I be worried about this?

thanks

some guns now are thrown together quite quickly. I would want to trade it in for a different one. you did say you bought it new right? for a not much more you could probally buy a remington 870. I have owned both and both worked fine but my thoughts are the 870 is more tight and better built. IMO

Thats exactly what mine looks like. bit of a gap, slightly off center. I think your OCD is taking over....I thought mine was bad ;). I never really looked that close at it till now.....it's only a shotgun, they don't have to be perfect. My Mossberg is a workhorse in the fall, never once whined to me about her tolerances not being perfect :)

my 28" barrel is slightly off as well, but not quit as much as yours. Bring it back to the dealer and make them aware of it

Remington has had serious QC issues over the last few years. I've seen more Remington 870's choke than any other make or model. There is nothing wrong with that shotgun. At the end of the day, its a shotgun not a Ferrari.

thats just the rib.
the rib is not a structural 'shoulder' that needs to lock up tight against the receiver - its just an otherwise flimsy piece of metal soldered on top of the barrel to act as a sighting aid.
