so I recently purchased a norc 1911 and I cannot insert the mags unless I hold the mag release button 1/2 way in. The pistol came with 2 norc 7 round mags and I also purchased to wilson combat 8 round mags and it happens with all 4. Any thoughts? Also, when I hit the mag release my mags don't drop free, they drop about 1/2 inch and get stuck. Is this a common Norc issue?

Mine was a little stiff at first as well. Clean it with brake clean, then oil it where it needs it around the mag release, then work it until it smooths out.

There could be a burr on the mag release. A simple fix of removing it and carefully filing down the lip or adjusting the angle of the bottom of the catch so it works properly, provided you are comfortable doing that.

not being all too familiar with how a proper 1911 mag release should look I am not sure. I am not new to modifying things on my own, but there doesn't seem to be any oviously visible faults with the mag release. I could try to put a more gentle bevel on it if that might help. I suppose the worst case scenario is I spend 20 bucks at brownells and replace it if I screw it up

Not uncommon with the new Norcs. As mentioned they will wear in with use. Most likely a sharp angle on the mag release that is preventing it from smooth insertion. I had the exact problem recently with one of the new chromium Norcs. Also had an issue with the mags getting hung up inside feeding the rounds and not getting full capacity. Finally figured that out and all is good now. It(mag insertion issue) is not a problem specific to Norcs. Had the same problem with a Colt 1911 earlier this year.

what helped the mag internals from hanging up? Just normal wear and tear to break it in?? Guess I have another excuse to fire off 1000+ rnds in the name of maintenance

Mag is fixed. Spent about 10 minutes with a round file taking it out, file a bit, put it back and check... Repeat, by the fourth time it was perfect. A little bit of outers blueing kit and it functions 100 times better and Ive never even fired a shot through her yet. Thanks for the help guys

Glad to hear you got it going.

On the mag internals, I found I had to remove spring/follower and give it a good clean. I lightly beveled the edges on the mag follower and the mag no longer hung up. I guess it was the sharp vertical edges catching on a slight surface imperfection inside the mag body. Did it to both and all is well.
Glad to hear you got yours working. It would have fixed itself but sometimes you have to get it a helping hand if you dont have the patience of a saint.
Cheers

Unless I misread the OP's post, I think he was having problems inserting the mags into the magwell not feeding issues with the mag itself.
