Brand new Ruger 10/22 failure to feed

Hello all

I bought a brand spanking new Ruger 10/22 in August. Didn't have time to get out to do any shooting with it till October. First magazine, and this thing just plain sucked. The first round would not chamber properly. Would get stuck on the upper left corner of the chamber, and shave a good chunk of lead off the bullet in doing so. I could wigle the bolt back partially and force it in and fire the first shot. Then, same jam, every 2 or 3 shots. Thought it might just be old ammo, or it was fussy, so I took it to indoor range yesterday with brand new ammo. I tried federal lead, copper plated and copper plated hollow point. Tried American Eagle, Winchester, and CCI mini mags. I also bought a new magazine. Same issue. Any ideas on what could be causing this? I'm just thinking I'll send it in for warranty, however, that seems to be a pain in the ass, so hoping there might be a quick fix I can do myself. Really annoying to get a brand new rifle that won't work from day 1. I bought the Ruger because they are renowned for being reasonably accurate, and damn reliable.

I also bought a Marlin 795, and some extra mags. That thing is fairly accurate (crappy trigger) and super reliable. Put a hundred rounds of assorted ammo through it, some of it 15 years old and it ran flawlessly. Half the price of the Ruger too.

Thanks

Dean

I had something similar happen . Ended up having to sand a smooth edge on the chamber . But without seeing it , it’s hard to say

Difficult to diagnose without seeing the gun in person. It sounds like there may be something wrong with your mag seating with the receiver. Does you mag drop free? Does it install with a positive "click"?

Very hard to say without having it in hand, you say it's brand new so it has the plastic trigger guard assembly, these are known to wear after considerable use and that lets ttt magazine shift back and fourth causing failures and jams. But yours is brand new do it should not be worn.

I will never buy a new 10/22 only second band with metal trigger group.the older thr better.I have one from the 70 s that has had every type of .22 ammo put through it and thousands of rounds later it never jams .

Take it to a qualified gunsmith they can figure it out quickly.

Mine still stove pipes occasionally. I'm using cheap ammo so I can't blame the gun as of course. It's a cheap semi-auto and I don't expect 100% performance.

You may have a factory issue.

However if it was mine

I'd pull the barreled action fro the stock.

Remove the trigger assemble.

Then the barrel from the action and the bolt and charging handle .

Clean an reassemble all . Look for burrs on the edge of the chamber and bolt.

Take it out and try again.

Do not lube, shoot dry til it warms up.

Lot's of info on the net o how to assemble and disassemble.
