Brand New (to me) JC

I just bought a Jungle Carbine in Edmonton and am looking for some info on it. The finish has been redone and is newly parkerized. All of the the lightening cuts on the action and chamber are there as well as the other hallmarks of the JC including the but pad and rear sight etc. so I am sure that it is genuine-ish (as far as that goes). Now the sticky part... The serial number is NOT electrostenciled but is stamped left of the reciever HSG###X. There are numerous small crowns, "F"'s and other markings on it. The words "Ideal Gun" are marked on the bottom of the chamber underneath the handguard. Serial number on the bolt does not match and bolt handle is slightly drilled out but not hollow like the JC. Could this be a #4 bolt? The ejector is weak and sometimes drops the ejected round onto the magazine. The nose of soft point ammunition gets badly mashed on the feed ramp and then onto the base of the chamber. How do I fix this?

I intend to create a Scout Rifle out of it (synthetic stock, long eye relief sight etc). Has anyone done this? I've just started looking around for parts and have come up short. Also, what must be done before I try to fire this thing? Any info would be helpful.

Hi Thatguy,

1. For modifying an Enfield, better to find a pre-Bubba'ed one, plenty of cheap ones around (No1 Mk3, No4 Mk1), rather than doing it to a genuine complete No5 Enfield (if your Jungle ends up being as such).

2. Rounds having a hard time: I had this issue with round nose ammo, with pointy ones I'm always ok. Are you using round ones?

3. I have seen a few weak extractor springs, replacements can be found somewhat easily (let me know if you need a few web site addresses). I'm pretty sure, I think that's the same part as with No4's.

4. Drop by a gunsmith's place and have the headspace checked.

5. Post pictures here! :)
