wondering how much intrest something like a mint condition vietnam era m1917 bayonet and scabbard would be generated in a canadian forum? i see are brothers to the south, they jump on differnt things then us. is this one of them? befor anyone says this should be in the blade section, wait it should be here because it is unique. it is the bayonet that goes with /or on the m97 more commonly knowen as the winchester 97 or 1897. plus the vietnam issue is more rare then the ww1 examples.

It's worth about $100, when purchased with an 1897 trenchgun. Sold separately, it could fetch as much as $200 from someone who has the gun and wants some of the accessories.

New and unused is a bit of an unknown factor for a M1917 bayonet. There could be some collector(s) who would pay a premium for one in that condition, especially if they own an 1897 in similar condition. Oddly enough, though, most collectors of 1897 trenchguns would prefer a bayonet that is used, but not abused. The reason for this is that military collectors are especially interested in the provenance of a given piece. They want one that is in good condition, but they also want the one that they buy to actually have served in the war. The ultimate would be to have first-hand knowledge of the name(s) of the warrior(s) who used the piece, knowledge of their unit and the battles they fought, and knowledge that the individual was decorated for his role or neutralized an important enemy.

Having a new and unused example doesn't leave the collector any such rich history, or even any room for his(her) imagination to fill in the blanks.
