Brant Halloween match

If you didn't shoot it you wouldn't know but it wasn't that dark! I'm sure it was a bit more challenging for production and standard shooters but it was equal for everyone, and low light shooting is certainly "practical"
I'm sure the partial targets and rope you had to hold caused most of the misses on the one stage.

I can't speak for other clubs, but I try to run matches on a cost recovery basis. Cost being considered as full cost.

The actual direct costs (patches, targets, affiliation fees, meal etc) for any given shooter at any smaller match are actually quite low in my experience. Typically, at least 75% (probably closer to 85-90%) of the match fee is going towards indirect costs like lighting, steel maintenance/replacement, heat, range repairs, etc. However, range props and steel last a lot longer than just one match, and they certainly last a lot longer than just one shooter. And range repairs tend to last well beyond one match as well. So those costs should be recouped much more slowly over time.

IMO, and this is just my opinion, but I would consider any match that charges a shooter more than $10 for indirect costs (especially on an outdoor match) probably has a match fee thats too high. But I don't know, maybe some clubs or match directors run matches with the goal of earning a profit, I don't. Maybe some organizers aren't willing to work for free. My ultimate goal is to keep the sport as cheap as possible to get more shooters out, that's as simply as I can put it.

And that's all I have to say about that.

if I'm going to a match its not for the lunch its for the shooting, Always been worth the trip to a Brant match.
hard to compare the cost of an IDPA match to that of an IPSC match since they are to different sports. A few $ of the match fee goes to IPSC for every shooter. Since IPSC is freestyle we need to put a bit more time effort into stage layout constuction, no FTR's to catch any oversights. The only time that should have bearing on match fees is if the match has to rent the range time, extra set up hours.

buy some better poppers and you won't need to be fixing them as often :D
MGM's are worth every cent we payed for them

The guys at Brant did a great job, as they always do. I'm happy to pay 25 bucks for a fun match. It costs money to put these things together, the organization itself takes a slice, and I think the host club should be able to make a couple of bucks as well for using their facility.

I never count on having food available at ANY match I attend. They may indeed have it, but it may not be something I would care to eat. So I always bring my own food.
