Brass bulge

I'm very new to reloading and I've been reloading .40 S&W. I noticed today when seating the bullet there was a very slight bulge in the bass where the end of the bullet was. Basically you can tell where the bullet ends inside the brass. You can't see it but you can feel it. Have I done something wrong? I didn't notice this on my factory cartridges. I did check all of my size specs including OAL and everything is acceptable.

Pop the barrel out of your gun. now holding it vertically, muzzle down, start your newly loaded rounds in the chamber. Do they drop in fully with only gravity? If so, you are good-to-go.
 
If you ever get around to shooting competitively you should do that test with each and every round you plan to use. It really does save heartache.
 
I suggest you buy a Dillon ammo gauge for your 40 SW. I know some dealers on here sell this product. As what splatter said you will need to gauge the diameter of each reloaded round you produce to save you from heartache and lots of fail to cycle ammo during competition.

with regards to the bulging, its either you got to much crimp, especially if your using the Lee seating die which also does the crimp. another way I can think of is your bullet dia, maybe its a little bit oversize. you did not mention the die your using. try making a dummy round and make sure you rersize it fully ( resizing die straight all the way to the brass touching the shell holder), and apply a light crimp first until you got the crimp you desire. lastly, try using a ammo gauze by Dillon to check your finish round. good luck
