Brass cleaning

I'll Bite ;)

I am waiting for someone to ask how lead dust can get into the tumbling media. No one has asked, so I will. How does tumbling brass contaminate the tumbling media with lead????

Ok :)
Let's walk on the wild side for a minute.

1. From copper jacketed bullets that lose some of the jacket while exiting the case.

2. From using cast bullets.

3. From primers that supposedly have lead in the composition of the primer.

4. The case had fallen into a container of leaded gasoline.

5. The 3 year old has scribbled all over the case.

i've been reloading for 25 years and have never tumbled my brass. in order to remove powder fouling and grit i wash the brass in hot water, with a little degreaser and laundry detergent added, for about 10 minutes. then i spread it on a cookie sheet and dry it in the oven on 250 degrees (F) for an hour. it's much easier than fooling with media, polishes, removing media from primer pockets, etc.
