After loading up some .280A.I. shells and shooting about 15rds I was cleaning my rifle and noticed on my bolt face some brass filings. Is this anything or just maybe some left over from chamfering the brass. Just not sure how it would have mde it to the bolt face as I wipe down my shells after loading.

brass filings

When you close the bolt there is some camming action that can wear off brass. Under fire there is lots of pressure from bolt thrust that will remove brass. If you are shooting a Remington you should make sure the brass does not get into the ejector plunger.

I get brass shaving in my receiver. In my case this is caused by the extractor having to go over the case rim instead of the case slidding under the extractor.
