I have come across an amount of .308, 303, 30-30, 223, 9mm brass. In the process of sorting thru it and wondering if I am waisting my time. There is Dominion, DC Co, IVI, REM, Winchester, WW, LC Match, Herters (few boxes of virgin, unprimed), as well as off shore brass cases that I cant recall names of. It is mixed with majority of boxed primed but some Berdan primed.
I realise that some are made by the same companies but is some prefered over others for reloading. Most of this brass is once fired but some has been reloaded.

I am looking for advice as what to look for/keep as I am human and going to cherry pick some good brass, put it to the side to teach my son to reload before listing the rest for sale.

Any and all info would be appreciated.

For the rifle brass, sort by primer type and then by make. Take out what you want and list the rest by caliber/primer/# times fired. For the 9mm brass....I think you could dump it in a box and sell as is. Short of the aluminum cased CCI stuff, I could care less about the brand of 9mm brass I shoot.

Most reloaders want boxer primed casings. The Berdan is very hard to remove the primers and the flash hole has to be drilled to open them for the factory primer removal tool in the dies. Most of the names are older manufacturers and IVI is military...but as long as the casings are not damaged or cracked, they may be resized and reloaded.

Have you had the joys of swaging the primer pockets on military brass? (IVI)

If you are going to reload almost any military brass you will have to remove the pressed flange around the primer pocket. There are a couple of ways of doing this.

I have.
The RCBS pocket swager works great for this.

Unless its of a very scarce caliber i'll put it all in the recycle bucket under the bench and spend $20/100 for new, havn't the patience for sorting out used, possibly damaged antique junk.
I save all my junk brass till there's enough to take in and get cash for at the scrappers.
I figure my times worth more doing other things.

Any 9mm is fine if it is brass cased and boxer primed.

The rifle calibers should be sorted by headstamp. I like my brass to all be the same thing for my rifle calibers, so I would only buy if you could provide enough of identical brass to fill my needs for that calibre. For example, I usually keep 100 .250-3000 cases in circulation, so if I went looking to buy in that calibre, I want 100 cases all the same. .308 and .223 I won't look at quantities under 500, and 1000 is better. I say you have to sort it and figure out what you have first, before you can decide if it is worth anything.
