Suuup CGN community!! Something ####ty happened when I was shooting my baby. Fuken light strikes... The revolver is a brand new 629 Competitor so I wasn’t suspecting a gun malfunction. 2nd I reload, I bought 200 Winchester brass and I’m done shooting 500 rounds so do the maths... that means 3x fires on some brass.

Here’s some interesting picts

.052 might be 3x fired Winchester, at least 2
.055 is factory federal ammo
.056 is S&B 2x fired and I noticed that primer pockets were tight like a virgin. Extra thickness when resizing also.
And finally the SAAMI spec is .060 for the rim.

Should I discard at .052 or keep them for rifle shooting? I shoot hot loads for 308 and the only time I discard brass is when the primer pocket becomes loose.

What do y’all think!!

Happy shooting!!

Another thing, what’s the difference between the 2 different 44mag loads in the latest hornady book?

The SAAMI drawing shows the rim thickness manufacturing tolerance can be .060 to .049.

My guess is something is blocking the firing pin from the full protrusion or the hammer spring screw in the grip backed out. There is also a chance "someone" replaced the hammer spring with one too light for your primers..

I use CCI large pistol mag, I think CCI has harder cups than others. I have 1500 in inventory...The gun is brand new, I fired 550 rounds with it. Hiccups started with 2x fires win brass only. I had some 1x fired S&B and federal brass and I had no prob with them. Mmmmm ?

The first load you have circled says its for 44mag auto-loading carbine. They are most likely tailored specifically to make the Ruger semi auto 44 cycle reliably. Single shots, levers and bolt actions will function without the loads being as specific.

Again make sure nothing is binding or blocking the firing pin and the hammer spring grip screw has not backed out.

If it was me, I would clean with brake cleaner and toothbrush. A speck of brass can cause problems.

I would make sure the grip screw allows for full power.

I would switch to federal primers. They are very sensitive.

franktank, did you make sure the primers pockets were clean and the primers were seated all the way?

Any time I had a failure to fire 99.9% it was something I did wrong.

I’ll clean primer pockets next time, I didn’t clean them since the beginning...
