brass stuck in die, ???

Sound like not enough lube. Just lube the case body and a wee bit inside the mouth. No lube should be on the shoulder or outside of the neck.

This is usually a problem when there is not enough lube on the brass I can't
see that not trimming your brass before you size it would be a problem.
I trim after I size. To get that brass out of your die if you don't have a kit.
You need to drill and tap the case, then you need to get a bolt about the
same length as the case and a washer, also a chunk of pipe same diameter
as the die and about 3/4 the length of the bolt.Place the bolt and washer
in the pipe and thread the bolt into the case and crank. Hope this helps.

I agree that lube is most likely the problem. I also second Carney's advice about the homemade case remover. There is an excellant article on the surplusrifle.com website. If you have not been there before, give it a look over.

Not only do they have great articles on milsurp stuff but there is a pile of info on most shooting and reloading topics. They also include enough quality pictures to make it easy to understand what they are talking about.

was it ivi brass?- the stuff is almost impossible to resize and i've found generally gets stuck in the die, decapper inside-i've knocked it free with a soft faced mallet after removing the die from the press and putting it on a pre-drilled board-big enough for the shell to drop though, but not the die- then got the decapper out with a pipe cutter

as tempting as it is pricewise, ivi is just too hard to reload- every time i've tried it it's pulled the rim(yes, i know the 308 is rimless) right off the head, leaving the case stuck in the die- now that you've been down this road, don't come this way again- spend a couple of extra bucks and get commercial- and if you did manage to get it out of the die, you'll have a primer crimp to deal with- no big deal on its own, but coupled with the resizing problem, not worth the trouble- ivi- fire and throw away- i've also had some 9mm from them that pulled the pin out of the decapper- small flash hole- too tight?- maybe just wise to stay away altogether as far as reloading is concerned- and i use a dillon 550 press, so it wasn't my press wasn't strong enough

thanks for the help, i have awhack of this stuff ,especially when its free, once i get it resized i just have to neck size for my bolt action , no more full length for me after that ,i wouldnt be trying surplus brass, but i was told it holds up better than comercial does ,

You should not have to trim your brass before resizing, I reform 30-06 brass into .257 Robt. by first pushing the shoulder back in my .308 die. The brass comes out with a very long neck and I do a rough trim with a pipe cutter before sizing in my .257 die and final trim/turn of the neck. I agree that you probably did not have enough lube. What type of dies do you use? I have mostly RCBS and LYMAN but the only time I had problems with extracting the resizer was with Lee dies which I replaced.
