Yes, I admit, I am a bit of a brass whore. But more of a closet brass whore. I sneak around the range after people leave and pick up the free brass... :)

But I have got a friend of mine into reloading and he has turned into a Brass Crack Hoe. The last time I was at the range with him, he was ctaching other peoples brass before it hit the ground...:p

Is there any hope for him?

Can I help turn the tide?

No worries Arch, I won't tell them who you are...:slap:whoops...:p

Not much hope for him if it is a big, tough guy shooting, when he catches the brass before it hits the ground!
Catching the brass before it hits the ground is an absolute no-no.

lol i'm the same way except for catching it before it hits the ground. I'm a big range scavenger after everyone leaves. I even pick up brass for calibers I don't even own. Yet..

I was at a range last fall, a demo day for a .45 acp pistol. I turn around and there are two men down on there hands and knees scrambling for the brass. We started having some some fun with them by tossing more empties to them, just out of reach of course so they would scramble some more. They finally realized what was going on and one of them just said, "Yes, I'm a brass whore!"

Sounds like we need a twelve step recover process....

I was only kidding about him picking up brass as it hit the ground... :) I'm trying to make myself shine by smearing mud on him.... :p

you guys will be alright till you meet that one piece that's been fired about a dozen times, you reload, and the head separates- that's the other side of using "range "brass-

I think I would have a problem with someone grabing my brass when it hit the ground

There's a guy at the range who tries to sneak my brass even though he knows I reload.

Bastard.

I'm a brass whore with my own brass, not other peoples'. I'll occasionally pick up abandoned .40 and .45, just to feel like I've made a "brass profit".

X2 My rule is 500pcs for a particular cartridge for a new rifle, 1000pcs for a new handgun. Thank goodness there is enough brass at our range that I have not yet lowered myself to owning a 9mm;)...........but there is a pick-up truck load of 9mm brass at our range.

Well maybe you are not experienced enough to cull bad brass from good, but others are.

I'm the same way but if I see someone who's not picking up their brass for calibres I reload, I'll ask and if they say I can have it I'll pick up a dozen or so. There are days that I go home with a 'deficit' so it all balances out. I've spoken to a few people who don't reload but recover their brass and then some to sell it to a recycler to subsidize their ammo costs.

I try, but other people usually beat me to the brass.

(except for that one day when I got my kids to help me pick up 2 x 20L pails of 40 S&W after a police armorers course)

maybe this one was a fluke, but i ALWAYS cull my brass- 45acp winchester case, and no signs of incipient head failure- just took the lip off the slide stop - the blow out was just ahead of the rim, and a very small hole- may have been a problem when the brass was drawn, or whatever- also no cracks, splits or anything else-

When I shot PPC at Stittsville, we had a guy that was catching the brass while in the air, and this was from the RCMP. I was told by the senior instructor about this and I ended up telling the individual to not go near the RCMP while they were shooting, I also told him that we didn't want him around if he continued to do this.

I might be casing "hoe". I got up early this morning to go to out door range to pickup any reload able casing's. I do it only when nobody is around shooting. I'm just starting out reloading so I need the brass. I pick it all up in case I might get a firearm that use it, or maybe trade it. I'll hang my head in shame now(LOL).
