I rescently bought some new .38 S&W brass from a fellow CGN'r. It has no headstamp. I mean nothing...no caliber...no manufacturer...its smooth. I am just starting out reloading so I have a lot to learn but this was something I never expected. Is this normal? I compared it to other .38 S&W cartridges I have and I would definately say it is .38 S&W. Interested to hear everyones take on it.

That's from super-secret go-fast special forces behind-enemy-lines ammo, so the enemy can't figure out who assisinated their supreme leader by looking at the cartridge cases.

Or it's been reloaded so many times the headstamp has worn off. I've heard of guys who've been reloading the same 45 ACP cases since the 60s and the headstamp is plumb gone. I don't know if .38 S&W has a lifespan as long as 45.

Or one manufacturer didn't have the headstamp stamping machine set up that day.

I mean: I don't know. I've never seen that before.

It in new brass. Never shot. I talked to the person who sold it to me and they said it was sold as Winchester brass. He figures they didn't bother stamping it because it is not a common caliber and they can keep costs down that way. He had never seen it before either.

It's good brass, I bought some too. Bit thicker then the Dominion I picked up from Higginsons. Should last a while......
