On second thought, on seeing the muzles, think you're right. So they in 7.62x51 not 30-06.

It would have been an easy shot to make. Caribou have big hooves and those trigger guards are small.

I like the rear sight. I've a Mexican Mauser that is pretty shiny... but the classic Mauser sight leaves much to be desired IMO.
Can see the relation to the Springfield...except the sight...that is classic crappy Mauser sight ( my Mexican...not the Brazilian beauty)!
And I have a few of them...but the sights! Compared to a Springfield or even a Lee Enfield...dare I say it...a Ross MK 3 ? The Mauser system is without compare IMO...why didn't they step up the irons?

Internationl Firearms offered them for sale back in the day. The barrels were originally chambered for the 30-06 then had the tenons cut back and threads extended and chambered for the 7.62x51.
I bought several of them to use as a basis for sporters, in a cartridge that was quite popular at the time. I was quite surprised when I saw the barrels, which were in excellent condition had been set back to the point they now longer had a shoulder to lock up on the face of the receiver. However, Mausers can also be seated against the internal surfaces, so they're quite safe to shoot.
All of the rifles I bought were FTRed in Itauba from what I can see and all of the original makers stamps were ground off and replaced with new serial numbers.
That muzzle brake is quite effective as well.
I remember I got as much money for the H&K style rear sight as I paid for the rifles.
I still have one barreled reciever with bolt in my storage bins and maybe one or two of the stocks, which were heavily coated on some sort of polymer.
Many of the rifles I purchased had been issued in the field to Police and other reserves in lieu of giving them the G93 variants being built in Brazil at the time for their and neighbors armed forces.
The issue rifles were parkerized with a matte black finish and very handy to carry just as they were issued.
I should dig out the parts and put the rifle I have on hand back together. Sadly, I didn't keep any of the rear sights, which have always been on the expensive side.
