Hello all ! glad to finally "officially" join the shotgun forum.... picking up my shotty hopefully next week..... Was wondering what kind of ammo should i buy and how much ammo should i shoot through to "break in " my new gun (slugs/ #4 shot/ etc)? also what kind of ammo , manufacturer wise , is less expensive so i can by an abundance to take to the range ,for the break in period. Also is there a specific break in procedure for new shotguns? Sorry for all the question but pretty excited getting my first shotty which is a 590a1. :D

Shoot the ####e out of it :p Thats break in.

Cheap ammo well you can find 3" No 6 and 2 3/4" No 7 1/2 and 8 shot, for like 19-22$ per 100 and you can find slugs for 10$ per 15.

If the shotgun has a smooth bore barrel, you don't need to break in the barrel, but lube the action nicely and shoot, it will help to smooth out the action.
