So I know this ranks up there with the bear defence threads as done to death but what the hell..

So the toy is ready to go waiting for the snow to go and the weather to warm up. It is a 300 win mag with a new shilen ready to go. I have read the recommended break in procedure but my question is how crucial is it.

My plan was to load about 20 rounds with some old Speer spritzer to sight in and get used to the gun.

Most likely fire one clean, fire five clean. then five more and clean.

I am eager to start load development so would this suffice ?

The last rifle I bought was also the first one I did any kind of break in procedure with. Savage 10T in 6.5 CM.
It's the best shooting rifle I've ever owned, and is easy to clean. I followed their instructions in the Savage Canada website. Not easy to find, it's under the FAQ section. If I remember right, it's about 50 rounds.
I'd suggest following whatever Shilen recommends. If their website doesn't have anything on the topic, call and ask them. They may tell you to simply shoot it, but considering how much you have invested, take your time and do it right.
