Hi All,
I shoot 1911's in IPSC and have had a problem of breaking the hinge pin on my Bomar (rear) sights.
I have a Para/Caspian and an SVI, and I've broken the pins in both of them.
The loads are basically the same 4.2 and 4.3 grains of Clays behind a 230gr Frontier bullet, and large pistol primers.
I've got 14# or 12.5# springs in them (can't remember now...), and no shock-buff.
Has anyone else had this same problem?
Should I try running with a shock-buff?
Is the pin breaking upon recoil?
I've tried to use drill rod to replace these pins. Cheap drills don't work, expensive drills work for a while, but still break.
The Bomar on the SVI had the pin staked in place, but it still broke, and still came loose (and fell out on the floor....).
I have both halves of the pin, and with a bit of the good-old duct tape, I can keep them in-place, but this is NOT a recommended accessory for an SVI... I get far too many strange looks and "colorful" comments when I show up with my pistol in that state.
Does anyone know how to
1) stop this from happening
2) get some replacement pins
Thank you!
Sean
