I'm suprised at how there's volumes written on a spring in a Springfield Garand's trigger assembly, but I can find next to nothing on Breda mfg rifles- production dates etc. Anybody have any links or reference books?
 
I have a beautiful (appears unissued?) Breda that I got from another board member. You can use this photo montage to compare all correct markings etc.

Thanks, I'll bounce it off what I've got coming. Just finalized a deal on one, complete BMB parts and a tiger grain stock that would make a cabinet maker weep like a baby. The barrel's marked 1955, judging by the fact that all parts are BMB, I have no reason to believe it's been rebuilt. All the rebuilds I've seen were big time bitsas. I will be putting a NM sight on it though, AND I DON'T CARE WHO KNOWS IT!! Ha!
Shame, regret, self loathing, sleepless nights and pangs of guilt for selling my Springfield slowly diminishing...

BTW, what's "the market's" opinion on the wop M1s as opposed to the yank mfg's? More sought after? Less? Can I even say wop?
 
When a stripped USGI and a stripped Italian Danish Garand are compared side by side, the differences are subtle but obvious. The American rifle was made on a military contract with finish as a secondary consideration. They were made to pass inspection and fulfil the contract. Men were fighting with those rifles - right now! The Italian rifle was made in peacetime on a contract to compete against all the millions of surplus WWII rifles. It had to look like the better choice. So there are fewer tool marks, better finish, and overall higher quality control standards. The parts are all interchangeable, but the PB, BMB and BMR parts are all better made. The US collectors are snobs about USGI or nothing in their collections; they don't know what they are missing.

Less desireable to collectors, much better fit and finish then wartime produced M1's and make great shooters. They were made on the latest tooling with the latest drawing numbers and are as advanced as the design ever got.
 
That's what I thought, and it seems like people are huffing glue with the prices I see. But I guess if the market bears it... who am I to question? Snagged a '41 Johnson for $500 a few years back, sold it to a guy in Montana (after 18 months of paperwork) fer $2400us. Good times.
