Breda Shotguns

Anyone else here own them? I have a pair of Breda 710's in 3" mag (just got another one last week) and they are great guns. I only wish that they'd handle the 3.5" loads I favour for waterfowl. From my gunsmith's opinion, they are one of the finest recoil operated semi auto shotguns ever built. Breda actually competed with Beretta but they were subsidized by the Italian government. Beretta successfully sued the government and when the subsidies stopped, Breda could no longer sell their high end shotguns at a price which was attractive or affordable to the general public and as a result, went bankrupt.

AFAIK, Breda and Benelli had an association some years ago. Some of the Benelli shotguns (including the SUPER BLACK EAGLE) are actually Breda's creations.

Not quite the same gun. Breda Bresciana Mechanica was the original maker. The name and tooling from the original company were bought up some years ago....

They are quite common in the Peterborough/Kawartha Lakes area of Ontario. Pilon Marine in Peterborough carried them in the 60's and 70's and they sold a lot. Good guns!

Actually that explains a few things.... Did Pilon marine burn down?

No, the silent partner put a useless son-in-law in charge after the two active partners sold out. It lasted about three years. It was on Simcoe then Hunter across from the parking garage, under Doug and John it was a true sporting good's store.

I received that info from an old European gunsmith, however have not been able to verify it's authenticity.
