Just curious, and yes I have used Lougle to search but am getting responses related to suppressors and gas settings for USA.

Has anyone trimmed down a 16.5” Bren heavy barrel here in Canada? If so who did you use? Maybe taking it down 4” to a 12 or 12.5” barrel.

Most I read about is dwell settings and not enough gas to make the motion in the ocean run smoothly and as efficiently as it should.

Any takers on this question? Thanks

I don't understand why you wish to cut down a 16" Barrel to 12" when you could just order a factory 11" with the correct Gas Plug right from the start? Why go to the extra time, trouble and expense of a Barrel chop and re-crown?

Thanks for response. My want was to maintain the heavy barrel. Not like paper targets will have much to do with the price of eggs and deviation but that was just my thought

That an barrels are $700+ from what I saw on EE

Might want to consult the firearms act. Manufacturing a new barrel that is shorter than 18" is legal.

Taking a finished barrel and cutting it so that it becomes shorter than 18" is making it prohibited. This includes finished barrels already under 18" in length

Cutting down an already restricted barrel and making it prohibited. I would expect nothing less of Canada. Thanks Brian.

Heavy barrel will not make the barrel more accurate, but it will probably keep that accuracy longer in high rate adn volume of fire. There are rifles out there it doesn't matter how thick the barrel is, it is just the way it is.

The question is - what are your rate and volume of fire and distance of engagement? Since we don't have the fun switch, it may not be as important as you think.

I see that the Bren 3 is coming with a heavier barrel. It is nice to have, but personally I do not think it is worth the effort and $ to custom made a heavy barrel for a Bren, based on the volume and rate of fire you can achieve in Canada as well as the architecture of Bren 2.

Have monitor of what Dlask is offering in their sub forum. Leigh has been talking about offering complete drop in barrel/gas assemblies/trunnion.
They do very nice work.

This is a picture of my 7.62x39 Bren 2 with original 11 inch barrel and their drop in NR 18.6 inch barrel/gas assembly. The gas block is their machine work and an upgrade over the cast OEM block. The barrel is a heavy profile that was turned light past the gas block. You get the some weight reduction on the front end to keep it point able and also some additional heat absorption at the same time.
