Bren gun day at the range

Okay. I won't keep you guessing. The Brens are DEWATS. It was a show and tell night at our weekly shoot. We all shoot milsurps and use a lot of trainers on Wednesday night. The Brens were a hit with the crowd.

You should have had a large handful of empty casings laying on the table under the gun to really fool all.

I had one converted semi-auto in the 80s lot of fun!!! Surplus ammo was very cheap back then.

A friend of mine has one of those. It is prohib but he says he can still take it to the range. It seems like a fuzzy area of whether you can or can't shoot them. What's your take?

Not fuzzy at all. The CFO's haven't issued ATT for 12/3 for a long time.

Bill C10A passed in 2005 which ended the issuing of the SAP (special authority to possess) that was required to transport 12(3), 12(4) and 12(5) classified firearms. This includes your buddy's Bren.

Auggie D.

This is just sad. It's like looking at skin books instead of the real thing. Until 12 years ago people with converted autos and full autos could actually take them to a range and shoot them under cover of an ATT. Now they just sit in safes and gather dust.

God knows how many 7-11s didn't get knocked off, or how many kids didn't get caught in the crossfire of urban gangs thanks to this political tampering, but no doubt it's been huge.

Kinda sad that we have been reduced to thinking taking dewats to the range for a photo op is "fun" or "cool"

I don't know about that. I was with the RCDs in Lahr in the 70s and we had Centurions. Never did take very many pictures back then. So when I was in Calgary, I had somebody take a picture of me sitting on the Centurion at the military museum just for old times sake. I the 60s, we still had the Bren and I was trained on them. Again, never had a picture of one because I didn't bother. So now I own a dewat, the only thing I can and take a picture for fun. Sad? Nah, just fun.

On the positive, there was educational value in their endeavor here for some.

None of us at the range that night are happy about the current state of available firearms. We are just playing the hand we are dealt and trying to find some enjoyment with the things we are allowed to have. We can be upset and still have some fun at the same time. The guns were brought to the range because there were seven or eight people who wanted to see them and having everyone at the same place at the same time made the range the best place to bring them. Points was nice enough to share the photos because others might also be interested but I assure you, he did not bring it out and share the photos because he wants to feel "cool". I will say, however, that everyone did have fun that night (as we always do) because we were shooting guns, checking out some dewat history and we ended the eveing with good friends over a burger and a beer , and really, isn't that what it really is all about?
