Brenneke slugs in Canada?

Thomana, I want to do a head to head test to find a good slug for both big game hunting and bear defense. I'd like to see how they all stack up against each other for accuracy, penetration (through phone books) and recoil. I've heard good things about Brenneke, especially their 3" mag black magic slugs. I spent alot of time searching but couldnt find a single retailer online in Canada.

Actual Brenneke USA brand slugs aren't always easy to find depending on area, however there are other manufacturers that offer Brenneke style slugs in Canada, like the Palla Solengos from Clever.

Also there are some that offer psuedo-Brenneke type Gualandi slugs like Challenger, Fiocchi and probably others.

I don't know if any of the above are quite as good as actual Brenneke brand slugs but they've still got to be a big step up in penetration over Foster type slugs.

The last time this question came up I recall TSE saying they were carrying or about to carry Brenneke USA. I'd start there.

Brenneke is a bit like Hornady in some respects. Brenneke makes ammo under their own name but also provide the slugs to other ammo makers such as Rottweil and Rio. I've used both and have no complaints.

When I need Rottweil Brenneke slugs the one place that has never let me down is Al Simmons in Hamilton, Ontario. I don't know if they will mail order slugs to Western Canada but there's no harm in asking.

i bought some rottweil brenneke slugs for my 16 gauge. they seem to be about the best i can find here in northern ontario. i'd say try em out if u get a chance. i bought my'n from the kenogami gun shop which is just a short ride from kirkland lake, ontario. look em up, they might still have some in whichever gauge you're looking for. also, if you get a chance, try out the rio's, like claybuster said. i've only ever used their #4 shot for my 16 but they've been what i've sworn by since they day i've bought it. good luck in your search

Thanks guys, they dont need to be Brenneke USA, I'll look into other brands as well. I kinda want to put them up against fosters and I'll see how accurate sabots are at close range through a smoothbore. Then, at the expense of mine and an unsuspecting friend's shoulders, I'll have some definite answers for myself and others to use. :kickInTheNuts: :shotgun:
