Given that I cant swing a set of tubes right now, I've been looking at the Side-kicks as an alternative.

I've done a few google searches and many people mention that they're not a good choice for competition. But they never elaborate as to why.

I suppose fitted tubes are the best bet, but what drawbacks come with using the side kivks? poor patterns? Inconsitancies of any sort?

Don't know of any real draw backs with these. They make odd sounding reports and tear up the wads some, but the guys I know do as well with these as full length tubes. Not sure that the weight difference is that great because most of the weight in in the chambers anyway. You must select the proper choke in the 12 ga. barrel to get the pattern size you like.

My 2 cents anyway, Good Luck.

I've got that set and have had great luck with them even though I hardly ever shoot them any more. Came in a yellow plastic case with 2 each for 28GA, 20GA & 410 bore along with a mallet and extractor rod. They're actually pretty slick and very easy to use. No noticeable weight issues. Nothing bad to report!

If you are eventually going to get full length, wait and get the long tubes. That way you are only paying one time.

If you are going to compete I would recommend the long tubes. If you just want to shoot sub-gauges, go ahead with the short tubes.

Over time, the performance will be somewhat better with the long tubes. You also have the option of getting choke tubes for long tubes.

That said, I've seen the performance of the short tubes, and it is impressive. They can sometime sound funny as earlier mentioned. You may have to do some work to see what 12ga chokes you should use.

I saw it mentioned elsewhere that Briley will give you full credit of the side-kicks if you decide to get full tubes later on. I'm going to send them an e-mail and see if there's any truth to that.

Who in Canada stocks or sells the Briley side-kicks? I'm looking for a set in 20 and 28.

As mentioned, Lawry Shooting Sports and Gagnon. I'm not sure of the full scope of what Gagnon offers. But Lawry's is a direct dealer for Briley. Chokes, tube sets, etc. They're the go between if you have to send your gun away to Briley.

I have a set of sidekicks and have had great luck with them. I installed them in my browning superposed skeet and have shot 25's in 20ga and 28ga. I have only got a 21 wth the 410 tubes but you would be suprised how well the bird breaks if you do your job.

As mentioned above they work quite well. I have a pair of savage 410ers and have had great luck with those as well. I've used brileys in my sxs's before and it was like there was no difference
