Briley Side-Kick Tubes

Is anyone out there shooting a set of these in 20/28/410?

I'm looking at purchasing a set, but there seem to be a lot of mixed reviews on some of the US shotgun sites. I'm curious on performance and how they pattern. Loads would be AA light 9's.

I had a set of the full length standard weight tubes, and was happy with them other than the fact that they added a significant amount of weight. I shoot skeet and sporting and would like to shoot a similar weight gun for both, not something 12 ounces heavier with the sub gauges in it.

Any thoughts or reviews?

Thanks,

I found them O.K. to "play" with, but would shoot the 12 ga. event(s) with the gun tubed to 20 with more conventional Briley or Kolar tubes - if registered birds were my bag.

Those little shorty tubes looked attractive with respect to their minimal weight being located more or less between the hands ... but they wouldn't handle anything other than quality brass target loads properly... and to achieve good breaks, I.C.'s were neccessary in 20 & 28 and Mod. in 410.

IMHO - acceptable for recreational shooting ... not suitable for competition.

I know a handful of people who use them.

They work ok, without adding significant weight.

If you aren't worried about making AA across the board, and don't mind if some of the shells sound funny, you will be fine.

Brad.

Keep using "el-cheapo" steel based ammo in your inserts and you will run into trouble.
Look for cracks in the 20 ga. set first. Hot 410 loads like Challenger's Sporting in 410 will not extract reliably.

More than acceptable with 410 shorty tubes through a Browning Skeet choke. I'd love to see an actual pattern at 21 yards !
