Just looking at a '55 Mk2 on the EE and was wondering if it would have any of the commercial proof markings the Brits loved to stamp on the surplus rifles they sold, you know the "2.222" and "18.5 tonnes per []"" stamps. I read a while ago that they stopped, but not sure when it was. Anyone know if the rifle would have them? Did they even stop? Thanks.

Proof of firearms sold commercially in Britain is still mandatory. The marks you mention will not necessarily be on a No4 or other arm only if it has passed through the hands of a civilian business in Britain.

Some purists think it affacts the value, Now the way I look at it, that just means more goodies for me. These are the same people who think military rifles should never have replaced parts or you shouldn't change the oil in your car because then it would not be as "original" as when it left the factory.
