I have a question and this seems like a good place to ask. Has the Brn A-5 in 12g ever been used in LE or Mil. I'm wondering about Buck shot and a 18.5 in barrel and how to set up friction rings. Any with actual experence?

The Browning Auto-5 and the Remington Model 11 have been used by law enforcement and military, very much so. Actually in 1903 the Number 0 Messenger gun was introduced. It had a 20" cylinder bore barrel and was in 12 ga. It also saw use by partisans and resistance movements during WW2. During the Malayan emergency it was widely used. It was also official issue in Rhodesia. From 1941 to 1944 Remington sold the US government at least 60,000 Model 11s of all types. From bird guns to 20" riot guns.

For buckshot set up the friction rings for a heavy load. I find they function best with heavy loads anyways.

For heavy loads, the recoil spring goes on first, resting directly on the receiver, then the single one piece non-flexible friction ring, flat side down against the recoil spring, beveled side up towards the muzzle, then the bronze friction piece, beveled side up towards the muzzle, flat side down against the single non-flexible friction ring. For light loads, the single one piece non-flexible friction ring goes on first, beveled side down resting directly against the receiver, flat side up towards the muzzle resting against the recoil spring. Next the recoil spring, then the bronze friction piece, flat side down against the recoil spring, beveled side up, towards the muzzle.
