It seems that the removed rear sight for scope placement has gone by the way of the Do-Do berd. šŸ¤”

Anyone know of a place to find one?

Or better yet, what has the clever mind done and used for a replacement? šŸ¦

Kamlooky - be aware there might be two sizes - a fellow on CGN had one that he called a BRNO No. 1 - I think that one had letters TIF or TGF on the top of front receiver ring - the rear sight dovetail was fairly large. The version I had, also a BRNO No. 1 - had the circular symbol - like a "Z" floating in middle of a rifled bore - much smaller dovetail to the rear sight. I was never really sure about those - one might have been from the Nazi Occupation during WWII, or a continuation of that production, and the other might have been a more "modern" incarnation of the same rifle or the same factory. Mine was stamped "55" on both the barrel and receiver - so I think mine was made in 1955 - not sure when the other guy's was made. His was also missing the rear sight - what he got was much too narrow dovetail for his rifle - I think what he got would have fit on my version.

Your best bet to to search the auctions, I picked one up a few years ago but other wise I know of no sources for OEM Brno rear sights. However is it a Brno No.1 or a No.2 or something from CZ?

Took the one off my sks.

I have found that if I am patient, I have found all sorts of obscure gun parts. I post an ad in the appropriate forum here, one on "fun-post" and any other forum you can think of. Over the years I have found butt plates, bottom metal, bolts, sights, fasteners, shims etc. Some took the better part of two years. Be patient!

Those rear sights are around, here in Ontario there were a lot of these 452s sold with scopes mounted, some dealers removed the sights to do so. I found one a few years back for a friend of mine on ebay. You will find one. :)

Keep an eye on Rimfire Central forums. A part like this can go in a padded envelope. It looks like you need parts 6 to 12 on the Numrich exploded parts diagram for the CZ 452. A request there might yield a private source. If so, they'll probably ship as a courtesy. Mostly nice people there. I've bought a few small parts that way.

I have a BRNO Model 2 I bought last year that has never shot well. I've put some time and effort into trying to figure it out and I'm pretty sure I've proven now that it's the barrel that's bad.

In any case it has the complete rear sight assembly. I'd be looking to sell the whole thing as a parts gun though.

I'm surprised about the accuracy thing, but there are always those looking for bolts for these rifles; like magazines for Mossberg Bolt Shotguns, they get misplaced. It took me over a month to find one for a Brno Mod 4 basket case I was fixing. It was super accurate and it ran perfectly!

I didn’t think I could go wrong buying it since they have a good reputation but I guess I was unlucky.

I tried and tested all kinds of stuff, two different scopes, making sure the barrel wasn’t touching hard on one side of the forend, action screw torque, cleaning out any potential carbon ring (C4 carbon remover, brass brush). Never got better than 4-5 moa groups at 50m, trying 6 kinds of ammo. I left it with my LGS and they confirmed the same results when they took it out.

I didn’t want to give up on it until I figured out what was going on so I did some research on how to check the barrel condition. I cast some soft lead slugs and pushed one all the way through from the muzzle. Noticeably tighter the last 1/3 towards the chamber and the slug measured .2231-.2232ā€. Then I pushed one in at the muzzle about an inch or less and back out the same end: .2238-2240ā€

Seems that’s the problem. Most posts I’ve seen online about slugging a CZ barrel report .220-.221ā€. The muzzle end being larger than the chamber end is the opposite of ideal as well. How it got this way I don’t know… it’s a late 70’s production gun with British proof marks, I bought it from a retailer that sells imported used guns.

Should've been doing that starting from the chamber end. Should always try to avoid doing anything from the muzzle end. But, regardless, sounds like the barrel is wonky.
