Hi All,

Want to get my Dad a rifle for his upcoming birthday. As he is going into his later 70's he has expressed several times over lunch at the farm that he likes the simplicity of the single shot scatter gun for work around the farm.

Ruger #1's I have owned and like, I was just looking for something different. Anyone with some real world with this firearm? Any and all feedback including pricing is appreciated before I bug Clay about availability and wait time....... ;)

I have one in 30-06.
Its light and accurate(moa or better with factory ammo). You do feel it off a bench but its not bad if your used to some recoil.
Single set trigger that I traditionally love for accuracy.
I believe they stopped making these several years ago.

I also have one in the original BRNO 110 series if I recall the model number. That variety is a little better built. The Effect in a little more boxy in the receiver, but otherwise they are very similar.

The Effect was made by BRNO - these "new" models that BRNO came out with several years back are not quite on par with their old products. Saving costs I would suppose.

There are several single shots now made by a new company (PPK) that purchased certain designs and the name BRNO to re-manufacture certain of the old BRNO line. They are similar to the BRNO Effect, and shoot well, but are not quite as nice as the old 110 line. I do not know if PPK is still producing rifles such as the K1 or K1 carbine.

I also love the takedown ability which is quick and simple and makes a wonderful travel rifle.

They looked so interesting on paper that I was anxious to see and handle one. Eventually I found one (used, at Cabela's!) and I was totally underwhelmed. Felt very cheaply assembled, indifferent wood-to-metal fit, mediocre wood finish. They had it priced at over $1300...it felt like it should have been about 1/3 of that. It was an Effect, not a 110, so I am assuming that it was the newest model as described by farshot.

If you find the lightweight single shot concept appealing, you should check out the Haenel model 9, available from Wolverine. I got one earlier this year, and it is a sweetheart. Super light, instant takedown, return-to-zero scope mounting, single-set trigger. Very nice little hunter, a poor man's Blaser K95.

The PPK Brno guns are not high grade....surprisingly low grade actually. They have no affiliation with the old BRNO company, CZ, etc. New company trying to market the name.
