Brno firearm info needed

I am not very familiar with Brno firearms. A friend of mine wants to trade a Brno 601 in .223 for my Remington 700 BDL classic in 22-250. I prefer the .223, but would like to get a few opinions in regards to the Brno, ie, is it comparable to the Mod 700, who likes them, what don't you like about them, and why?

The one I had years ago was a great shooter. All wood and steel and absolutely deadly in the gopher patch.

Does the one you're looking at have a single-set trigger (with a narrow front) or a conventional trigger?

The 601 is an excellent, true Mauser short action rifle. It will shoot MOA EASILY.

See if it has the backup pop-up peep sight in the receiver. If yes, it is worth a little more.
 
I've had a Brno .22 for years and it is a death ray, with a 4 power Leupold scope I consistently take the heads off grouse out to and sometimes beyond 50 yards. One of my favorite rifles:)
 
Brno's are built better than Remingtons in my experience. The stocks do not have a modern straight comb, which does not bother me at all. but some would like a straighter stock with higher comb. I got rid of my last Remington some time ago, and have three Brno's.
 
If the difference in cartidge is acceptable to you, then I would take the Brno and run. It will hold its value better as well.
 
Ive shoot BRNO's in 22, 30-06, and 375 H&H. All were excellent shooting guns and very accurate. As to weather its a good deal, thats up to you. I like Remington's personally, but the caliber 223 is more preferable to 22-250 imo.

The BRNO will hold its value better as Curt said.
 
always keep the BRNO - someday they will become appreciated as the "other" good Mauser and become very desirable and the Remingtons --- well ........

Shooters here in NB have a strong preference to the 22/250 over any other 22cal centerfire cartridge. I've seen lots of guys roll their eyes to a .223 and go head over heels for a 22/250. Try to explain that the advantage isn't really that great and they go deaf.

I went to a .223 this year and have three guys lined up to buy my 22/250. :confused:
