The most serious gopher (Richardson's Ground Squirrel) shooters that I have ever met were some older fellows (65+) that live in Alberta and shoot all over southern Alberta and Saskatchewan. These guys shoot an incredible number of gophers each year...I mean like a lot...like 8-10,000 each....and they keep an exact tally of their kill numbers...they naturally shoot .22 rimfires...not .223 or 22-250 or .243 or all that other nonsense that the yanks would have us believe is necessary to buck the prairie wind...and the rifle of choice...BRNO ...older models preferrred...model 1, model 3/4, model 5, etc. These guys shoot more gophers in a year than I have seen in a lifetime (and I grew up in rural Alberta and thought I had shot plenty myself). Their choice of rifle is based on a serious amount of experience. Something to consider.
