Hi - I acquired a Brno Model 1. It seems to shoot very well. There seems to be some different models and Im uncertain as to the differences. Can anyone give me some history on these rifles? Any idea of its value?

Nice find and looks to be in wonderful shape. BRNO manufactured the Model 1 from 1946 to 1956 and best view is that about 170,000 Model 1 rifles were built. Yours was manufactured in 1954 and has a beech stock. A classic, well-built and desirable rifle!

You will find a lot of information on BRNO rimfires at RimfireCentral (just google it). They have lots of history and original brochures for this great little rifle. Be sure to check out the BRNO stickies produced by user TOU. Hours and hours of reading there.

Yours was made in 1954. "narodny podnik" is workers' cooperative. Later models used a revised safety with a different arc of movement. Your rifle has a trigger mechanism akin to a M98 Mauser. A prop type trigger mechanism mechanically similar to a M70 trigger mechanism appeared on more recent models. The machined steel magazine housing is now plastic.
These are excellent rifles. Well made of quality materials, accurate.
I've rebarrelled a few - more challenging than most centerfire bolt action rifles.

Octane589 and tiriaq. Thanks for the information . I will check out the website you suggested. I don't know if I want to keep it just because I don't shoot 22lr very much and already have a 22Lr Anchutz model 54 match rifle so once I learn s more I can make a decision

They are awesome little rifles. Worth a lot more in USA than here for some odd reason. DCRA used them as target rifles for new shooters. Original rifles like yours are harder to find for that reason. Contact deadeyedave here for more info, he is a BRNO and CZ guru. I have one that was a DCRA rifle.

Well, my nephew shot the flame off a candle at 40 yards ... numerous times, with that mini mauser machined steel beauty.
Fed gold medal target ammo if I recall.
The finest rimfire I've ever held.
Hold on to it OP.

Shooting the flame of a candle I will have to see if my kimber can do that . The only problem here in Saskatchewan is the dam wind likely can't keep a candle let long enough to get a shot off.

I also have the exact same gun, I put a nice Weaver scope on it and it's the most accurate 22 I've ever shot.
Every now and then at the range someone actually notices what it is and tries to buy it off me, sorry it's not for sale.
