Brno Model 2 1967 bolt action .22 WHAT RINGS DO I NEED???

So I have a nice BRNO Model 2 E (1988) that I put a 3X9X40 Tasco World Class on about 18 years ago. Awesome combination without question the best money I ever spent. It has shot the heads off of countless grouse, ptarmigan and gophers. Quite capable of a 10 round string through one enlarged .22 hole at 25 meters.

My son is now nine and is an AVID grouse hunting partner. He will soon be legal to hunt (supervised). I picked up a 1967 BRNO model 2 in good shape and I want to mount a Vertex 3X9X40 (1inch tube) on the model 2 for him (I looked at Tasco but the quality is not there anymore). Wholesale sport said I need 11 mm rings in medium height. I waited for months for Leopold 11mm. They just came in special order but they do not fit!!!

My dovetail is 19/32" at the base or 14.8 mm (measured with vernier calipers at the deepest point in the groove) what rings should I order and from where???
I wish I could remember what I put on mine. They are solid steel and have solid steel bolts. Feels very solid and has never moved.

Please advise. Grouse season is nearly here!

Jeff you need 16mm rings , CZ,Leopold , Warne and Lynx make rings for the old Brno. I prefer the CZ base/ring set over ther one piece ring wich looks to bulky but work wonderfully also. My next choice would be Leopold.
Good luck and your son is very lucky, I had a piece a crap cooey that came out the local dump!

I just called wholesale sports in Kamloops. They said no the 11mm will not fit. The guy there apologized for the mistake and offered to mount it and bore site it when I make the exchange. He happens to have the leopold CZ rings in stock. I am thinking maybe when I sent my friend in to pick the rings up they just gave him the wrong ones. They did not have cz rings in stock when I ordered them the first time. I had the gun in hand in the store that day and they guy ordered leopold rings from the Sask. store for me.

Yes my son is VERY lucky. I also started with hand me down crap including a shot out .303 british which scattered rounds in the vicinity of where it was pointed and a .22 lakefield which had a crown issue and jammed quite reliably. I am trying to save my son the frustrations I had as a young man. Best to start with solid equipment so the only variable is the shooters skill. Plus it's cheap entertainment for a season of weekends doing something we both love.

Leopold CZ 527 medium 54360 fit well and they were in stock. They had an offset dowel pin which had to be driven back up into the rings. I am not sure what it's for but it must fit a socket on top of the dovetail on the CZ 527??

I got to the range at dusk. It's a shooter. First 5 rounds at 25 meters all through one hole. (enlarged a bit). The vertex scope is not as clear as my old tasco world class but it will do.
I am looking forward to playing a bit more on a brighter day.

I picked out the Vortex Crossfire II CF2-31007 3X9X40 Dead Hold BDC. It was WAY better than the new Tasco World Class in the store (looking at the optics chart). The clerk said that Tasco quality has gone way down (pricing too). On the range the Vortex did not seem as crisp and clear as my old Tasco World Class but to be fair I think I need to try and focus it on a bright and clear day. I got to the range in fading light at dusk and that is not the time to focus your optics. It is mounted a little farther back on the gun which is not ideal because the eye bell interferes with the bolt travel if you move it forward. The Tasco is about 1/4" further ahead because the eye bell is more tapered.

The model 2 is accurate and that is what I really wanted to confirm. My kids love this new gun! I gave the gun a thorough cleaning when I bought it because the action was full of dry hard yellow grease. The action on the model 2 (1967) is not as smooth as my model 2-E (1988) and the trigger is a bit heavier with less creep. I think that likely by the condition of the model 2 it has not been shot much and likely just needs to be broken in. I could not give a good round count on my 2 E but I would guesstimate 5,000 or more.
 
Ya I found the cf not to be to great for glass quality. At the local place here the diamondback is only a few bucks more and alot better. Im sure it will work well for you guys though. You can get a picatiny rail for it (the 527 rail should fit) for a decent price then you can use any rings you want and place the scope almost anywhere. I have a rail on my 452.
