I've got two of 'em, both ZP49's, both with straight English stocks. If you happen to think, as I do, that a side-by is the coolest, most graceful and elegant-looking type of gun on the planet, then they are the best deal going. As you mentioned, they are true sidelock guns. Very nicely finished, usually fairly decent walnut, with quite a bit of cast-off on both of mine. They have pretty tight bores, which I assume accounts for the fact that recoil is pretty stout, considering that they are 2 3/4" chambers. I put recoil pads on both of them, and had the chokes on one opened to IC/Mod. The other one remains in its original Full/Mod configuration, and I have used it on a couple of turkeys with good success.
Sadly, my gunsmith informs me that the barrel walls are too thin for choke tube installation.
I am toying with the idea of getting a third one, cutting the barrels off at 18 or 20 inches, installing chokes (assuming that the wall thickness will allow it at that point), adding sights, and playing with slugs and/or turkey loads. I didn't say that it was a GOOD idea!
Did I mention that like them?
